), Waiting for my man et Commando.

On a bien ri
et parlé longuement.

bye. Alex

Hi everyone,

First of all I want to say the set list (songs) for the francofolies show
was the same exact one as the Bliss tour.  The following is a story I wrote
about the show.  I am having trouble sending emails to the club.  Therefore,
Jean-Yves will post this for me.
I went to Montreal to see the fairy princess Vanessa Paradis
Metropolis
I had a lot of trouble just getting to Montreal.  Trust me it is a long
story, but I finally reached my destination.  I was looking forward my mini
vacation on the island.  I would explore the Jardin Botanique, Parc du Mont
Royal and eventually the Metropolis to see Vanessa Paradis perform her last
concert for the Bliss Tour for the francophone festival "FrancoFolies de
Montreal".
As the evening of the concert approached I decided to head to Ste Catherine
street to clock the distance to verify how long it would take to get to the
club.  As I turned the corner onto Ste Catherine I realized that the  line
was already growing steadily at 6:00pm for the 9:00pm show.  I scrambled
back up St Laurent in a rush to get ready for the show.
An hour and a half later the line for the concert was snaking around the
side of the building and scalpers were already on the prowel  selling
tickets to last minute concert goers.   I was glad to find out people were
being admitted into the club quickly.  I all ready knew I wanted to stand in
the front of the stage.  To my delight I found a space approximately three
feet from the front of the stage.  For almost two hours I watched as the
lighting was rehearsed and the roadies set up the finishing touches for the
show.
The wait seemed long, but was definitely worth it.
It was 8:45pm and the crowd was growing in number and becoming  more excited
to see Vanessa.  They kept screaming for her and applauding louder and
more often. As 9:00pm came and went the crowd started getting even more
anxious and chanted for her over and over.  Around  9:10pm the background
club music stopped, the stage lights dimmed and the musicians took their
places.  "L’eau et le vin" was first song they played.  At first,  I could
only hear Vanessa as the starlight background lit up.  Then there she was
with standing at the side of the drummer.
I will never forget it when she started dancing to the music and moving
toward the front of the stage.  She was much more beautiful in person and
her voice sounded not so high as on the cd I had been listening to since
last fall.  I can not tell every detail because I was so in awe and also
having fun dancing to the music.  I can say that Vanessa Paradis is a
magnificent singer and dancer.  She sang remixes of her older songs "Joe le
taxi" and also "Marilyn et John".   The whole crowd came alive and rocked
out to Tandem.  Even the very serious guard in the front of the stage could
not help dancing to that one! ;-)  This has to tell you how good she and her
bandmates were that night.
Vanessa is cool.
During the show I could not help to notice how much Vanessa interacts with
the crowd.  Although she spoke in french to the crowd it was better than
nothing.  I have been to shows where the musicians come on stage play and
pretty much leave.  It was very much opposite with Vanessa.  She began
interacting with the crowd right after the first song and did not stop until
the show was over.  The crowd sang with her on at least three songs.  It was
fantastic.  She has a good sense of humour too.
As she played "Waiting for the man"  the girl in front of me held up a
little sign the whole time Vanessa sang.  I could tell Vanessa at first had
a hard time reading it.  She kept staring at the words.  From the back I
could make out "Ton Harmonica STP"  I did not know what the girl  meant by
it until after the song when Vanessa reached out past the stage to hand the
girl her harmonica.  It was great and I was very happy for a fellow Vanessa
fan.
Later in the show Vanessa  gave up her tambourine to a gentleman in front of
the stage.  She held onto it until he got it.  She sepecificallly wanted him
to have it.  I could tell by the look on her face she was afraid someone
else would take it from her hand, but she held on until the man got a good
hold on it.  I thought that was so sweet and wonderful of her.  I know he
was just ecstatic.   It almost makes me cry because I can imagine he must be
a big fan of hers and how much it would have meant to me if I had been so
lucky.
One of may favorite parts of the evening was being surprised that she was
singing the "La la la song" it is one of my favorites from Bliss because of
the jazzy sound of it.  I also really enjoyed "Marilyn et John",  "Joe le
taxi" and "Tandem".  The latter had not been much of a favorite of mine, but
when they played it live it took on a whole different energy.  I suppose you
can not get this type of feeling in a studio.
Well, the show went on and got better and better.  Until the end of course.
The problem there was I did not want the fun to stop.
At the end of the last song before the encore Vanessa and the band came to
the front of the stage to take a bow.  It was cool.  She was pointing them
all out and the crowd was applauding for them.  I noticed every time she
would try to give applause for B. W. he would turn and shake his head and
point his fingers toward Vanessa.  At one point she turned  to him and she
said "thank you" and gave him a hug.  He patted her back and I could read
his lips "You’re going to cry…"  and she shook her head "yes", but she
didn’t.  I could see tears in her eyes though as she thanked the crowed and
took a bow.  I guess the tour must have been lots of fun for all of them.
It must be somewhat sad for it to all be over.  I am sure they have tons of
wonderful memories playing for the fans though.
Bliss
The last song of the night was "Bliss"  it was beautiful.  The crowd was so
still and quiet as she sang.  I was so sad to see them go, but I have all
happy memories of  the concert .  I will never forget it.
Oh, I could go on and on to tell more details, but it would take days to
tell everything.  I must say the concert was worth it.  I would recommend
for anyone who enjoys Vanessa’s singing to go to at least one concert if
they ever have the chance.  If that is out of the question I would recommend
purchasing a copy of her live concert dvd coming out later this fall.
Well, that is all for now.   I will try to answer any other questions.
Sincerely,
Yolanda

Paradis saves best for last

CHERYL HNATIUK, GAZETTE / Vanessa Paradis was the FrancoFolies closing act at Metropolis last night.

How apropos that French singer Vanessa Paradis was the closing act of Montreal's 13th FrancoFolies.

"Although we're melancholic that this is our last concert after a five-month tour," she told about 500 fans at Metropolis last night, "that doesn't mean we won't be passing a great evening together."

Paradis, 28, delivered exactly what she promised, whipping through a melange of her greatest hits and new singles. From her oldies she performed Sundays-Mondays, Walk on the Wild Side, Tandem and Natural High.

She was exuberant with energy, bopping around stage in a black Gypsie-like dress, often inviting her audience to sing along.

Among familiar tunes that received loud cheers were Dis Lui Toi, a ballad that prompted several couples to slow-dance, as well as Joe le Taxi, her 1986 debut single at the tender age of 14.

About half of Paradis's concert repertoire was devoted to her comeback album, Bliss. Some of the warmly received songs from that record included the lovely L'Eau et le Vin, Saint Germain and bouncy Dans Mon Cafe.

Whether she was singing old or new material, Paradis was always in fine form. Even after an eight-year hiatus from releasing a new CD, (she was busy with her boyfriend, actor Johnny Depp, and becoming mother to Lily-Rose), it was clear her Montreal fans didn't begrudge her absence.

Who can blame them? Paradis's voice is still as fresh as ever.
